Experience a state of no-mindedness while creating individual mandalas, circular drawings. Chinese term Wu-hsin is translated no-mindedness, requires the skill live in the moment. Dr. Sutton wants to share her knowledge of no-mindedness and she believes that everyone can experience this process and benefit from it in their life.

Individual mandalas are representation of our inner selves and free creation of fantasy. Mandala can be done by drawing, painting, writing, or doodling. A no-mindedness is not unconscious; rather it is total awareness during which one is undisturbed by the mind's usual distracting inner chat.

Participants will learn five principles of Wu-hsin Art TM developed by Dr. Sutton to free your inner mind and to reach a state of a no-mind in a painting process. During the act of painting, an attempt is made to free unconscious thinking by fusing diverse methods and theories. Dr. Sutton is reaching to find techniques to train the conscious mind to touch the inner self. Creative thinking depends on the unconscious, and sometimes people are not creative because they are not able to give their unconscious free rein. The unconscious is seen as an infinite source of nourishment for the creation of art.

What you create is true you, a gate into yourself that you can read later with the interpretation model designed by Dr. Sutton. In the interpretation model Jung's theory of archetypes is employed in parralle with Jung's theory of active imagination and amplification method to illuminate an artwork's images connecting them with with collective unconscious archetypes. Additionally, the logic of dreams can be compared the logic of artistic creation. The Freudian dream theory components of consolations, displacement, and condensation can reveal hidden thoughts in the analyses. Mandala can reveal information about how the person was feeling at the time, or latent unexpressed feelings. In truth, no one can interpret our mandala except ourselves. How we experience these symbolic expressions in our own life is unique to each of us and can be interpreted with archetypal symbols. Art can be a tool that improves imagination, engages senses, reveals emotions and unblocks memories.

One needs the commitment to become bold and open minded and experience the art of "no rules" that can be calming, a jump-start to creativity, and increase concentration. No artistic talent is required for the workshop. May cause elevated sense of happiness.

Art lessons for children, teens and adults: Drawing and Composition, Drawing and Perception, Design and Color, Clay Techniques I, Painting Acrylic, Painting Oils, Painting Watercolor, Introduction to Pastels, Life Drawing, and Non figurative art based on Eastern philosophies in art.

Instruction includes composition, line, value exercises and both breathing and relaxing exercises. Practice representing the proportion and scale of subjects. In-class exercises includes variety of instructor demonstrations to train a mind to see, think and draw, for instance; a viewfinder, a measuring stick, a mirror effect, contour drawing, blind touch-drawing, negative-spaces, an upside-down drawing, drawing with a non dominant hand, and relaxing exercises. As a participant you can explores a variety of art materials such as pencil, marker, crayon, chalk, charcoal, and ink. The goal is to encourage creativity and to have fun.

Trust your inner mind and be purely, simply, outrageously, and completely yourself. Be inspired by Eastern philosophies; experience a total awareness, a state of no-mindedness, which is similar to western concept of flow. A no-mindedness is a form of extremely conscious concentration in action and has roots in Buddhist meditation. One can listen to inner feelings and thoughts by being fully concentrated, emptying the mind of random thoughts and finding an inner state of no-mind. Often, artists explain how they experience a flow or a no-mindedness while they are in a process of creating.

A goal in this course is that artists can experience a no-mindedness before the actual painting process. For instance, while making Zen art, the painting process begins before the actual stroke. The artist first composes one's inner state and approach a state of no-mind. It is good to learn this action in nonaction and let things happen in the psyche. In that manner, an artist can concentrate, unwanted mistakes can be avoided, and the artist can become more sensitive and aware to create artworks. For instance, calligraphy is properly done in a no-mindedness way.

Eastern artists manipulate line through disciplined gestural movements of hands and ink brush. Western drawing exercises train the hand to find the power of line that lies in its versality, the myriad ways in which artist can express personal views or characterize the human figure. These both methods can expand awareness of communicative properties of line and increase a skill as a visual artist.

Participants are encouraged to be intuitively creative, develop new mediums, new manners, and new techniques. A lesson includes individual instructions, critiques, and class discussions. You can experience criticism as inspiration and experience continuity and breakup as agents of change. Think more critically: understand what and why you are creating art can help you develop fresh ideas and by understanding how altering assumptions can change your work and have increased familiarity of the function.



Every artwork is creatively different and so is every person. Atmosphere has to be noncompetitive and nonjudgmental where is no critique of the work, no right or wrong. A student is encouraged to observe the artworks of other students and other skillful artists for the purpose of learning. They learn to look beneath the surface and to appreciate differences instead of comparing, and become confident, independent and creative in their work.

Artistic process is highly complex form of activity that engages the whole body – physically, psychologically, and intellectually. Different art techniques and materials will be explored on lessons. By learning artistic techniques a person can better express oneself.

Art is a way to see and to learn to see well enough to draw and paint; to awaken your mind to the lovely language of forms and to express yourself in that language.

Some of the lessons are based Eastern philosophies and a doctoral dissertation by Dr. Sutton. Art instructor and painter Dr. Sutton has Master degree in Fine Art Education and Ph.D. in Art and Design. She has been teaching art lessons in Finland, Canada, and USA.
